SBGRC was founded in 1960. We are based in the greater Hartford, Connecticut to the Springfield, Massachusetts area, but we have members throughout New England, New York and New Jersey.

Our membership is quite diverse in its interests. We have members active in all areas of Golden Retriever competition and activities. For example, SBGRC members:

• Compete in obedience trials, earning everything from Companion Dog titles all the way up to Obedience Trial Championships
   
• Earn hunting titles, field trial titles, working certificates
   
• Compete in agility trials
   
• Breed and show their Goldens to championships in the breed ring
   
• Participate in tracking events with their dogs
   
• Do therapy work with their dogs in nursing homes and hospitals

Despite our varied interests, our common bond is our love for the Golden Retriever, our pursuit of excellence on behalf of the breed and our commitment to community service.

SBGRC is a member of the Golden Retriever Club of America (GRCA), the Master National Retriever Club, the Connecticut Dog Federation, Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue and the Massachusetts Federation of Dog Clubs and Responsible Dog Owners. The club is licensed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) to hold Hunting Tests for Retrievers, Agility trials, Specialty shows, and Specialty Obedience trials.
